What You Should Know About Hair
On this page, we will introduce the most common steps involved in hair transplant micrografts. The following details are presented for your information only. The actual steps required for a given transplant can vary according to the needs and features of a client. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any question concerning what you will read here.
A simple and problem-free intervention
On the morning of the intervention, the client can eat normally but he must wash his hair with a normal shampoo. Before starting the transplant procedure, pictures will be taken for the client's record. If the client feels too nervous, a mild medication against anxiety can be administered. A donating zone for the transplant is then chosen on the crown of the head. At this step, the client is usually lying on his stomach while the hairs are being picked out after a local anaesthesia. Once all the hair has been gathered, the wound is closed with resorbable sutures. The intervention leaves no mark and usually lasts about 30 minutes.

Grafting

The follicular units that will be used in the transplant are prepared using microscopes. The follicles extracted using a strip have a higher chance of survival and the follicular units gathered in this manner will grow and look just like normal hair. Considering those facts, one might wonder why clinics or practitioners do not systematically offer this method. The reasons behind this are both monetary and professional as this method requires more time spent with the client as well as extensive medical training.

Before proceeding with the micrograft, the client sits comfortably on a chair while the transplant zone is chosen. This is a crucial step that is always done with the highest care. If the transplant is done on the front of the head, the frontal hairline is a determining factor. It must be carefully drawn out according to the age, facial features and the shape of the head of the client. The frontal hairline should not be pushed too far forward as it could look unattractive and unnatural. Since the transplants are permanent, an adequate frontal hairline is essential.

Hair is transplanted one at a time and the grafts are implanted using a needle. The local anaesthesia makes this step entirely painless. A single session can last from a few minutes to a few hours depending on the amount of hair to be transplanted. In the meantime, the client can watch a movie, listen to music, eat a snack or even sleep. Once the transplant session is over, the implanted hair will be from 1 to 3 millimetres long.
